Thackley End, Summertown, Oxford

Thackley End is an early 1970’s brutalist concrete apartment block, situated in the desirable, residential area of Summertown, Oxford. KEIM were approached by Ian Bridge Consultancy Limited as the exterior concrete was showing evidence of rust and failing steel framework. They wanted reassurance that an anti-carbonation finish could be achieved, that would seamlessly cover the new and old repairs.

KEIM STS 7M, an environmentally friendly, non-hazardous paint stripper was used to remove the unbreathable clear lacquer  coating that had been applied to the building over 8 years ago. Two-coats of KEIM Concretal-C was then applied to protect the concrete against carbonation and chlorides.
