Description

When existing rendered surfaces are being decorated or re-decorated there is usually a need to carry out repairs to the substrate. These can range from small localised patches to complete reinstatement of facade elevations.

Keim Universal Render was developed in response to this requirement. It is a ready to use, easily applied renovation and thin layer wall render for use on all mineral substrates both externally and internally.

It comprises a hydraulic lime and white cement binder with sand and mineral fibre fillers. This composition means that the render can accommodate a high degree of movement (thermal expansion and contraction) whilst at the same time preventing surface crazing and cracking.

Consumption rates are intended for guideline purposes only and are quoted for smooth rendered surfaces.

Actual rates are the responsibility of the applicator. Project specifications should be referred to for specific rates.

Keim Universal Render has been employed at Lincolnshire Rural Housing Association properties in Bicker, Victoria Baths in Manchester, Cornes Close in Ashford, Llangollen's Royal Hotel, Northwood Community School in Kirby, Greenfield County Primary School in Bagillt, Prime Street Car Park in Hull, St Michaels & All Angels Church in Bramhall and Birmingham's Clydesdale Tower/Cleveland Tower.

Areas of Application

Localised patch repairs

Keim Universal Render can be used for the patch repair of existing rendered facades, whether over large areas or in localised situations, for example where cracks have been chased out and require surface reinstatement.

Facade reinstatement

For overall surface refurbishment Keim Universal Render can be used as a complete thin coat render system that can be subsequently decorated with any of the Keim mineral paint systems.

Component of multi-layer render system

Keim Universal Render can be used as a render base layer to which is subsequently applied any of the Keim coating systems and/or textured finishing render systems.

Features

Upgrades fire performance of existing painted surfaces

Keim Universal Render, when applied over sound previously painted substrates that are suitably prepared and abraded, is an integral part of the Keim Class ‘0’ encapsulation system. It is Class ‘0’ rated on Warrington Fire Research Centre Blue Board for the fire upgrading of previously coated multi-layer paint systems.

Application Guidelines

Localised Patch Repairs

Hack off loose and failed render to a sound base, chase out cracks. Remove algal and fungal growth with Keim Algicid and wash down.

All surfaces to be repaired shall be sound, clean, wind-dry, contaminant and dust free.

Fill localised cracks and surface irregularities with Keim Spachtel. Mix 4 parts of Keim Universal Render with 1 part of clean water (approximately 6 litres per 25kg bag) using a mechanical paddle mixer. Lightly wet the area to be repaired and float apply the Keim Universal Render using conventional plastering techniques. The composition of the render provides for a long working time allowing surfaces to be rubbed-up and lined out after several hours or even the following day. Localised glassfibre reinforcing mesh strips can be incorporated to provide crack resistance in vulnerable areas. Keep surfaces damp if exposed to high temperatures in direct sunlight to prevent premature drying out.

Do's & Don'ts

Do not apply at ambient and base temperatures below 5°C. Keim Universal Render should be protected from direct sun and rain during the setting time.
