No Stain - All Gain

Keim Mineral Paints have been used by Helena Housing Association on various estates in St Helens to refurbish existing properties. The major problem was of carbon staining on the exterior of the pebbledash render which is a result of the towns history and growth based on coalmining and heavy industry.
Since the decline of these industries, St Helens has been developing new industries and introducing rejuvenation programmes. Helena Housing Association has now completed a 4-year paint programme with Keim Mineral Paints under which a number of the Association’s properties have been refurbished in order to promote tenants well-being and boost area pride.
The first stage of the programme involved site testing on a single pilot house using Keim Granital not only to overcome the staining and improve the external appearance, but to prevent future bleeding through. Another key criterion of the paint specification was the anticipated life expectancy of the paint finish in order to reduce paint cycles and therefore lower long-term maintenance costs.
Keim Granital is a mineral based system with a microcrystalline structure which maintains breathability and forms a bond with the carbon deposits to prevent further bleeding. It is highly obliterative and provides a proven longlife finish with significant whole life costing benefits.
Following the successful trials, Helena Housing Association adopted the solution and has completed its programme with over 700 houses refurbished in the Wargrave and Alder Hey Estates using the Keim Granital longlife paint system.
Feedback from tenants has been highly positive and Helena Housing Association has a cost effective longlife solution to a problem which had been affecting a significant number of properties for many years.
A good result all round.
