Project Focus
Keim Mineral Paints & The RIBA Stirling Prize
Keim Mineral Paints have a rich history of working alongside architects and design teams, providing materials for some very innovative and impressive buildings, including many of the RIBA Stirling prize winners, in fact 8 out of the past 13 winners have used Keim Mineral Paint materials and products in some way. We were delighted to have attended the awards evening in October 2012 to see the design team for the Sainsbury’s Laboratory at Cambridge University receive this prestigious award for 2012.
The Stanton Williams design for the Sainsbury’s Laboratory is focused on the extremely high quality finished concrete which is visible from every vista of the structure. Keim Lotexan was used to protect the concrete and provide dust suppression as well as water repellence without any visible sheen or film which would alter the natural state integral to the concrete finish.

Keim Lotexan was also used at the Evelyn Grace Academy, design by Zaha Hadid Architects, the 2011 Stirling prize winner. Again the invisible finish of Keim Lotexan was very important to maintain the visual impression of the exposed concrete.
Keim Mineral Paints have been used on many of the projects to give the high quality, breathable and extremely durable colour finishes synonymous with Keim materials. Keim Royalan was used at the Maggie’s Centre in London, designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners which won in 2009 and Keim Granital used in black at The Laban Centre, London (Herzog & de Meuron) which received the prize in 2003. A range of Keim Mineral Paints were also used at the Scottish Parliament Building, designed by EMBT & RMJM, which won in 2005 including Keim Ecosil-ME as an internal mineral coating, Keim Granital, Keim Lotexan and Keim Concretal Lasur.
